Why am I Closing my Paivatar Web Shop? EU GPSR
I have spent the past few months setting up my Paivatar Website onto a new server. This took some time and effort to organize and to get payment systems such as Paypal and Stripe working. As I started this, I didn’t realize that I would be affected by the new SAFETY REGULATIONS of the European Union. For an independent hand crafter, it is not feasible to comply with the new Safety Regulations.
All of my products are handmade by me. I purchase many of the wools and natural dyes from the EU. I spin the wool, I hand dye the yarn using natural dyes and fermentation vats. I use no harmful chemicals – only the ones that naturally come from the environment and the world around us. I sew, stitch, knit, nalbind, and weave the products by hand.
But with the new EU SAFETY REGULATIONS I would be expected to keep all of my records for the next 10 years, and to pay another ‘official’ body to confirm that my products are ‘safe’.
Sadly, I have to say that I am not able or willing to do this. It would be too difficult to comply and to know whether my products are used by someone in the European Union. Therefore, for the time being, I am closing my WebShop.
If you live in the EU, and are concerned about this issue, please contact your local EU representative.
Instead of making and selling, I will concentrate my efforts into teaching others about the craft skills that I have learned over the years.
